Like the climate, the land-types vary in Kenya depending on the region.
central highlands and rift valley
In this region, Kenya's otherwise flat land rises into highlands. This is the region that contains many mountains including Kenya's highest point, Mt. Kenya, at 17,057 feet. The Kenyan highlands are divided by the Rift Valley, which contains Kenya's most fertile land and many lakes, like Lake Turkana. There are also some active volcanoes in this region, such as Mt. Kenya and Namarunu.
western kenya
This region contains both hills and plains. The Kakamega Rainforest is in this region, as well as more mountains.
northern and eastern kenya
This region is the hottest in the country. It is mainly brush land and is where Kenya's deserts are located. The Chalbi Desert is located here and it is surrounded by volcanoes.
coastal belt
This region lies along the Indian Ocean and is where all of Kenya's beaches are located. It is mainly plains that rise up to the highlands in Central Kenya.
