Natural Resources in Kenya
Kenya contains a lot of natural resources, however, many of these resources are endangered by drought. Kenya mines metals such as gold, iron, and steel. Although gold is a resource of Kenya, it is not a very big one and there are only small mines in Kenya for mining gold. The iron that is mined is used in cement production. Kenya also contains a significant amount of industrial minerals that are mined or quarried, such as limestone, salt, diatomite (fossilized aquatic algae), and gemstones. Gemstones mined in Kenya include Amethyst, Aquamarine, Ruby, and Sapphire. The salt that is quarried in Kenya is extracted from a lake in the Rift Valley, called Lake Magadi.
